We are developing a fast and sensitive diagnostic test – PD Sensor – for the detection of SAV virus in salmon

Pancreatic disease is a growing problem in salmon farms around the world, causing significant economic losses. Frequent diagnostic tests are one of the manners to prevent the spread of the infection. We offer a portable diagnostic tool to detect SAV on-site with high accuracy in a short time. The detection procedure takes up to 30 minutes and can be done directly on the farm, without the need for a laboratory, by farmworkers. The user-friendly procedure and competitive price will make the test available for widely and frequent use, enabling detection of infection at an early stage and faster response than in the case of laboratory tests. Consequently, it reduces the costs caused by the spread of the disease.
Fish Farm Solutions is working on an ultra-sensitive diagnostic platform for detecting pathogens in aquaculture. It bases on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy technology developed by SensDx. The test consists of a portable reader - Aquanostic; and disposable tests. The kit contains all materials and reagents to carry out the on-site analysis.
The technology allows for the detection of an active pathogen at an early stage of infection, so we can react quickly and prevent the disease from spreading to other places. Tests are as sensitive as laboratory methods, which have been confirmed by field validation.
Bearing in mind the importance of rapid diagnostics on the farms, we are working on the detection of various pathogens
In the next few months, we will launch products that allow the method to be used on several pathogens that we find in salmon, and that creates challenges in production in Norway and other countries that work with this species.
A similar research program that we are now finishing for salmon will soon be started for shrimp. The same goal here is for salmon to reduce the spread of disease in fish farms. It is also a goal for us to reduce antibiotic use in shrimp farming, which we see as a vital task.
We performed a successful and positive validation of FishSensor in Norway – our product that detects the SAV virus in the salmon tissues. It is digital, fast and precise. It can be compared to the Real-Time PCR tests as the results showed a high sensitivity of 100% and specificity by a tissue of 94% and by fish of 100%.
Our vision is to improve the quality of fish farms in the world and revolutionize veterinary diagnostics.
Our mission is to provide modern diagnostic solutions for aquaculture, especially in the area of fish farms.
